Initiatives

We regularly review our Initiatives, to ensure they remain relevant and impactful. We care passionately about what we do and who we do it with. Here are a few that we currently have in place.

Get it right initiative

Platform are pleased to become members of the Get It Right Initiative. The initiative has a singular strategic aim: To considerably reduce error in the UK construction industry.

The objectives align closely with Platform’s values and approach. We aim to proactively engage with others within the industry to implement the GIRI goals, which are to:

  • Create a culture and working environment to get it right from the start;

  • Change attitudes and harness leadership responsibility to reduce error and improve construction quality and productivity;

  • Engage all stakeholders in eliminating error from inception, through operation, to completion;

  • Share knowledge about error reduction processes and systems;

  • Improve skills across the sector creating a positive approach to pre-empting error.

SUSTAINABILITY

We recognise the global challenges that the world is facing and the decisions we take now will have an effect on shaping our world.

Our vision for sustainability is in keeping with the UN Sustainable Goals: we are actively working towards achieving Net Zero; we aim to be a better keeper of the environment by reducing our Scope 3 emissions, from purchased goods and services; we will work with and invest in local communities and urban spaces to promote sustainable measures. Having previously collaborated with Woodland Trust, our latest community project saw us plant 120 trees and hedgerows at Platt Primary School.

To ensure that we are truly working towards Net Zero, our sustainability progress will be reassessed quarterly at our company reviews. Every member of staff is encouraged to consider how we can reduce our impact and can suggest ways to help with our sustainable vision. We will report and evaluate our performance, adjusting the approach to ensure continuous improvement in 2023.

BCORP

We are proud to announce that Platform has been certified as a B Corporation. This certification places us amongst a group of companies that are committed to pursuing a purpose beyond just making profits. We have met the rigorous social and environmental standards set by B Lab, the non-profit organization behind the B Corp movement. This certification reflects our commitment to goals that go beyond just maximising shareholder profit.

As a B Corp, we are dedicated to using business as a force for good. We understand that our actions have an impact on our stakeholders, including our employees, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. We strive to create positive social and environmental impacts through our operations, products, and services. This certification serves as an important milestone for us, and we will continue to work towards making a positive impact, while also generating profits in a responsible and sustainable manner.

We believe that businesses have a responsibility to address the pressing social and environmental challenges of our time, and we are proud to be part of a community of like-minded companies that share this belief. We hope that our commitment to being a B Corp inspires other businesses to adopt socially and environmentally responsible practices, and together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

PLATFORM COMMUNITY

Platform’s philosophy is to do the right thing. We are fortunate enough and have the desire to help others and will use our resources to assist communities within which we work.  Our charitable work, provides a hands-on approach through volunteering, providing development expertise, mentoring, and donations for projects.

In Central London it is easy to forget that communities are in and around the companies. Platform wanted to get to know that community and support a local project. To this end, we contacted our local school, St Alban’s CE Primary, Holborn. We wanted to inspire children in a local school and open their eyes to future careers and opportunities that they may not have considered. We also wanted to put our efforts into providing something useful. A disused space was overgrown and underused. We saw a good opportunity to turn it into a learning space. Keen to be involved, the school council visited the office to talk to us about what we do and to let us know how we could help them. We engaged the whole school to get involved and submit their designs for a competition to create functioning school garden. We and the school were proud of the finished results. We hope the children will continue to be inspired by nature and to enjoy spending time learning outdoors.

Planting Success at Platt Primary School in 2023
Our team collaborated with Platt Primary School in 2023 to reinvigorate their woodland area. With the help of the Eco Council, we successfully planted 120 trees and hedgerows.

MIND IN BRENT, WANDSWORTH AND WESTMINSTER

In 2022, we began working with Mind in Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster. We are actively volunteering and fundraising on their behalf.  From running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to putting our DIY skills to use in the makeover of the Lookahead community hub,  to organising an art fundraiser with Portugal Prints. Our partnership continues to thrive and in March 2022 we took it one step further and fully fund the Mind BWW Green Minds programme. In partnership with The Royal Parks, this initiative aims to combine expertise from both organisations for the benefit of a group of people facing mental health challenges by providing tailored access to nature. Each month members of the group attend meetups, along with a Platform volunteer at Hyde Park and participate in activities aimed to improve well-being and increase connection to nature.

“One of the main benefits I have observed throughout this program is the positive impact it has on people’s moods (including my own). I have seen many participants walk into these sessions appearing quite flat, reserved, and anxious, but when they engage in nature activities you can visibly see they become much more animated, relaxed, and communicative. This has a knock-on effect as the participants, some of whom are struggling with loneliness and isolation, are interacting with nature and each other and forming friendships. It’s amazing to see the power of nature and its impact on our wellbeing.”
Tom Acres, Community Lead at Mind in Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster

EQUALITY

At Platform, we believe that everyone should have an equal right to employment, training and development regardless of race, age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. In order to build a culture of equality, we know that we need to make diversity and inclusion as important as financial growth, talent and productivity.

We are working to ensure that every employee feels valued and accepted in their team without having to conform. We support employees, regardless of their background or circumstances, to thrive at work. We value our differences.
